On 20/21 July 2017 scientists in the fields of climate change /sustainable energy research from Africa and Europe came together on the premises of the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The aim of the meeting was to enhance the planned “Africa-EU STI (science, technology and innovation) Partnership on climate change and sustainable energy”.
Experts discussed the current status and scientific foci. Results provide additional strategic and scientific input for the partnership-concept, which already has been outlined at a first meeting in Brussels in February 2017.
As a policy support project RINEA supports the development of the new cooperation and feeds the results of those consultations into the further roadmap process. RINEA will provide the latest version of the partnership-concept to the HLPD-bureau. Their members will discuss the concept and the follow-up procedure at one of the next meetings.
The final concept shall be discussed at the High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) in October 2017 in Brussels and then be presented to the senior officials of European and African Ministries responsible for STI at the Summit in November 2017. After approval, the partnership seeks to add further value to current cooperation between the EU and Africa in the domains of climate change and sustainable energy.
